Over 5,000 Myanmar nationals have crossed over to neighbouring Mizoram in India following Monday's airstrike by the Myanmar army in its Chin state, said Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, Inspector General of Police, Mizoram Police.
The operations were carried out by Police at Phaisen Check Gate and by joint teams comprising Champhai Police Station staff, Zokhawthar Police Station Staff and the 42nd Assam Rifles Battalion, said the police.
Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Mizoram Police arrested five Myanmar nationals and recovered 2.61 kilograms of heroin, valued at Rs 18.3 crore, said an official statement on Saturday.
In a joint operation, Assam Rifles, along with Mizoram Police, recovered 168 grams of heroin worth Rs 1.17 crore in Mizoram's Champhai District's Tlangsam Village and arrested one person on October 21, an official from the Assam Rifles said on Monday.
Ahead of the assembly polls in Mizoram, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police led to the recovery and seizure of a large number of explosives and ammunition. The joint operation by the paramilitary force and the state police took place in Mizoram's Siaha district.
"The Champhai police on duty at Khankawn Police Checkgate, on Tuesday evening, recovered and seized 765 grams (62 soap boxes) of heroin from one vehicle TATA Yodha bearing registration number AS-11EC-6462", said the police.
