Karnataka government’s decision to increase the price of Nandini milk by Rs 3 per litre seems to have kicked off a political storm in the state with the opposition BJP attacking the Siddaramiah government, and alleging that the hike would impact household budgets.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar on Thursday said that "we want to help farmers," after the Karnataka government announced a hike in the price of the state's milk brand, Nandini, by three rupees.
"One cannot cut the price suddenly. Any such decision should be taken only after discussing it with the government," the Chief Minister said to the Managing Director of Karnataka Milk Maha Mandal (KMF).
"Congress made India the world's largest milk producer through the White Revolution. But... BJP's misrule betrayed our dairy farmers, due to which milk prices are increasing daily and now we are forced to import milk products. The difference is clear!", Kharge tweeted.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Naresh Bansal on Friday took a jibe over Congress's allegations of not including important issues including unemployment and inflation in the Union Budget and said that provisions of resolving the issues are included in the budget.
Mother Dairy will raise the price of its full cream milk offerings from Rs 64 per litre to Rs 66 per litre in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).
This is the fourth upward revision in prices of milk, an essential food item, in 2022. The earlier revisions were done in March, August, and October this year.
With the hike, the price of full cream milk has increased from Rs 63 per litre to Rs 64 per litre. However, the company has not revised the prices of full-cream milk sold in 500 ml packs.
BJP Tamil Nadu president Annamalai condemned the rise in milk prices and said his party will take out massive rallies across the state to protest the increase in rates and articulate the rising public anger against the same.
