Light to moderate spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in several districts of Tamil Nadu during the next three hours, said a nowcast warning issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre on Saturday.
Speaking to ANI, S Balachandran, Director of Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre said, "For the next 24 hours, 'Red' alert to continue for Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tiruvaneli and Kanyakumari districts."
"Light thunderstorm and lightning with moderate rain are very likely over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet and Vellore districts of Tamil Nadu. It is also very likely over isolated places in Tirupattur, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil
Cyclone Michaung, brewing over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to skip the city and make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam with winds that could pack speeds of upto 100 kmph on Tuesday morning.
"Moderate thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain are very likely at isolated places over Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, Thiruppur, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Thirunelveli Kanyakumari and Karaikal districts of Tamil Nadu," Chennai Meteo
The Meteorological Centre, Chennai has predicted light thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain at isolated places in the state on Friday morning. The Meteorological department issued a notice at 7 am.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over Central and adjoining South Bay of Bengal around November 16, the IMD said in a statement.
