A day after the violence at the Assam-Meghalaya border, Assam Congress has alleged that this was a "deliberate incident" and both Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya were aware of it.
A cabinet delegation of the Meghalaya government will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on November 24 to discuss the firing incident at Mukroh area in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills district, said officials.
A total of six persons including five from Meghalaya and one from Assam Forest Guard were killed in the firing incident that took place in the Mukroh area along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Tuesday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said.
Telecom and social media services has been shut across districts of Meghalaya namely West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts.
Confirming the report, Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi told ANI that, the incident took place in the Mukroh area and four persons were killed in the firing incident.
Speaking to ANI, Sangma said, "We will go alone in the upcoming election of the state. We had fought alone in earlier elections also. But our support to NDA will be continued. Out of 60 assembly seats of Meghalaya, as of now, we have finalized our party candidates in 58 seats."
Ri-Bhoi police following a tip-off about the said smuggling case nabbed three notorious smugglers from Manipur. The police recovered a total of 158 boxes of high-grade heroin from them. The worth of the consignment seized is said to be around Rs 14 crores.
