Meghalaya recorded 12.06 per cent voter turnout till 9 am in the ongoing polling for 59 assembly constituencies, the Election Commission informed on Monday.
As polling began for the Meghalaya Assembly on Monday, the first five voters received mementoes in a bid to encourage robust turnout and voting in the early hours.
As the voting in 59 out of 60 Assembly constituencies is to be held today in Meghalaya, around 19000 police personnel have been stationed on poll duty.

Polling will be held at 3,419 polling stations across 59 Assembly constituencies in the state. The voting will begin at 7 am and continue till 4 pm, on Monday. Of the 60 Assembly constituencies in Meghalaya, 36 fall in Khasi, Jaintia Hills region while 24 are in Garo Hills region.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday called upon the people to not "waste" their votes supporting the TMC, claiming that the National People's Party (NPP) will form the government in the upcoming Assembly polls.
