The first buy of the WPL 2023 auction for Delhi Capitals was star India batter Jemimah Rodrigues, who has acquired for INR 2.2 crore. The Delhi Capitals also acquired India's U-19 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma for INR 2 crore.
DC started the bid for the explosive right-hander while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) joined in. Mumbai Indians (MI) swooped in with INR 1.3 crore but DC managed to get Shafali for INR 2 crore.
Despite her glorious career so far involving World Cup wins and memorable moments, it will be Lanning's and most of her squad members' first time in South Africa. Lanning is playing her fifth T20 World Cup for the Aussies.
Following the Commonwealth Games in August, Lanning took a leave of absence for personal reasons. As a result, she missed the WBBL and the five T20I matches in India.
The 27-year-old, who struck unbeaten knocks of 40 and 70 in Mumbai, has overtaken compatriots Meg Lanning and Beth Mooney as well as India opener Smriti Mandhana to become the fourth Australian and 12th batter to top the women's T20I rankings.
