India finished day three of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship Juniors in Changwon, Korea, on top of the medal tally, sneaking ahead of China with four gold medals to their kitty.
Actor Angad Bedi is all set to take his sprinting passion to new heights and proudly represent India in the 400m race at an international level, following his remarkable achievement of winning the silver medal in his maiden 400m sprinting tournament in Mumbai.
This was India’s third gold of the competition and they find themselves, on second spot, in the medal tally currently, with a silver and two bronze medals to boot. China leads the tally with the same number of gold and bronze as India, but with an additional silver to show for their efforts.
This comes amid reports that India will not be sending its football teams to the Asian Games, which will be held in China from September 23 to October 8 this year. India has won two Asian Games gold medals (1951 and 1962) and a bronze medal (1970) in football.
Earlier, World No. 18 Quadri Aruna lived up to his reputation from the start of the tie and comfortably defeated the two-time Asian Games gold medallist 3-0 to earn three valuable team points for his franchise.
ISSF Junior World Championships are underway at Changwon Shooting Range, Republic of Korea. The junior shooting world championships, now in its third edition, will see 90 Indian shooters vie for medals in pistol, rifle and shotgun competitions in the under-21 age category.
Vinesh Phogat, a two-time world championships medallist and the reigning Asian Games champion, was expected to compete in the 55kg weight class on Saturday.
This win marks her return to the mat on a commendable note by winning the bronze play-off by 6-2 against the crowd's favourite Hungarian, Viktoria Borsos, who is the U-20 World Championship silver medallist.
