Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday paid floral tribute to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) founder and former CM CN Annadurai on his 57th death anniversary at his Memorial at Marina Beach.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that the deep depression, the remnant of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah, currently centred over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts, has moved northwards at a speed of 10 kmph in the past six hours.
From evening, the beach witnessed a steady influx of people dressed in colorful traditional attire. Many families came to enjoy the sea breeze, turning the scenic coastline into a lively celebration ground. Children were seen playing with crackers and balloons.
The CM also distributed chocolates to school children at Chennai's Muthamizharignar Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Memorial, as per the Department of Information and Public Relations.
The authorities have advised the public to not visit beaches in Puducherry as well as in Tamil Nadu's Chennai, including Marina Beach, Pattinapakkam and Edward Elliot Beach. The tourist spots in Puducherry have been closed as a precautionary measure, owing to the impending cyclone Fengal<
This incident follows the tragedy on October 6 when five people who attended the mega air show of the Air Force at the Marina Beach in the city died on account of "high temperature" in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
