Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur earlier, holding him responsible for "allowing" the violence in the state to continue.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in Manipur, with the Imphal city being all decked up to welcome him. Visuals from accross the state capital showed extensive deployment of police and security personnel.
"Your 3-hour PIT STOP in Manipur is not compassion -- it's farce, tokenism, and a grave insult to a wounded people. Your so-called ROADSHOW in Imphal and Churachandpur today, is nothing but a cowardly escape from hearing the cries of people in relief camps!", Kharge said in a post on X.
Former Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh on Saturday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state and called it a moment that will lead to "peace and lasting progress".
"I note that the Indian Prime Minister has finally decided to visit Manipur, despite the state burning for over two years. Compassion has obviously failed, but the 2027 election preparations have succeeded in reminding him of Manipur," the DMK MP said on social media on Friday.

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's likely visit to Manipur, accusing him of ignoring the "main issue of the nation" which is 'vote Chori'.
"The proposed visit of the Prime Minister to Manipur on Sept 13 is being hailed by his cheerleaders. But it appears that he will be spending just about 3 hours--yes, just 3 hours--in the state. What does he hope to accomplish by such a rushed trip?" Jairam Ramesh wrote in a post on X.
Earlier in the day, a five-member Supreme Court Judges' delegation, led by Justice BR Gavai, arrived in Imphal, Manipur. The delegation comprising Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, KV Viswanathan and N Kotishwar arrived in Manipur.
On arrival, the Army chief was briefed on the operational preparedness by commanders on the ground. General Upendra Dwivedi also held a discussion with heads of various security agencies in the state wherein, he expressed his appreciation for the insights shared by them.
