West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday invited the protesting doctor to meet her on Monday and appealed to them to call off the fast and protest and resume duty.
Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar urged BJP workers and people of West Bengal to join doctors' protest in large numbers. He said that the West Bengal government had promised to meet doctors' demands during the meeting with the Chief Minister but have rescinded on it, since.
The body of the 31-year-old doctor was found at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Since then thousands of junior doctors in the state have been on a strike.

Speaking to ANI, Majumdar said "The law and order in Kolkata is broken. It has become the national rape capital now. The police is not able to do anything and Mamata Banerjee should now resign. We are with the victim's family and will provide them any help they need."
