Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu comfortably got the better of Aya Ohori of Japan 21-16, 21-11 in 40 minutes in pre-quarters and will lock horns with China's Zhang Yi Man to book a spot in the semifinals.
Prannoy defeated Taiwanese badminton player Chou Tien Chen 16-21, 21-14, 21-13 in the Men's single. He lost his first set but made an impressive comeback and cliched two straight sets. On the other, Malvika lost to China's Wang Zhi Yi by 11-21, 13-21 in women's single.
Aakarshi who is placed 39th in the ranking was defeated by the world No.1 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan. She lost straight sets by 17-21, 12-21. While the world No. 50, Ashmita's tournament ended after she lost the match against world no 9 Han Yue of China 17-21, 7-21.
HS Prannoy has been in good form since helping India win their maiden Thomas Cup title in May this year. His best came when he made it to the final of the Swiss Open, a BWF Super 300 event. He also had two semifinal appearances in the Malaysia Masters and Indonesia Open.
Playing on Court 1, Prannoy's defence was solid and the jump smashes and net-play were delightful. But the highlight was the composure he showed at the end.
