A total of 4,426 nomination papers of 3,259 candidates have been filed till October 28 for the elections on 288 constituencies of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, said a release from the office of Maharashtra's Chief Election Officer.

Following the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the state government and the Home department will reach the roots of it, adding that strict action will be taken against the accused involved in the matter.
