Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said Union Home Minister Amit Shah mediated on the border dispute with Karnataka at the request of Maharashtra while adding that no one should do politics over the matter.
"Our protest rally on December 17 will focus on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border issue, insult of Maharashtra's icons by the Governor and BJP leaders and other issues. It'll be a silent and peaceful march. We're yet to get permission for it," said NCP leader Ajit Pawar.
14 villages of Simavarti Jivati tehsil of Chandrapur district, along the Maharashtra-Telangana border is claimed by both the states. Even a 10-room house is also divided among the two states.
The Home Minister chaired a meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde regarding the Maharashtra-Karnataka border issue.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai on Tuesday underlined the developments, to be followed, in the Chamarajanagar district by saying that the State government will the government will accord importance to the development of this district.
After the Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute escalated, many untoward incidents took place in Belagavi, after which as a precautionary measure, police presence was tightened along the border, in Belagavi's Chikkodi.
Referring to the Maharashtra-Karnataka border row, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary CT Ravi on Saturday urged people of both states to be patient and wait for the apex court's verdict.
"A meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be held on December 14 or 15 over the border row between Karnataka and Maharashtra," said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Amid the row over the border dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra, Belagavi Police on Friday said the situation in the area is "normal and peaceful".
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday assured a delegation of opposition parties from Maharashtra to urgently resolve the state border dispute with Karnataka.
Speaking at the presser, Udayanraje Bhonsle said, "PM himself called the meeting. He had called Rajya Sabha MPs from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. He wanted to share some points with us regarding the party, how to get the party enhanced, and how to boost it up further".
