Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday criticised the Uttar Pradesh government for the steep decline in school enrolment and for its approach towards private madrasas, calling it "serious, worrying, and unfair."
The Uttar Pradesh government has recently carried out an encroachment removal campaign in several districts along the India-Nepal border in the state, taking action against more than 250 illegal constructions, as per an official statement.
"The police should search for immigrants coming from other countries in Madrasas, located in my district and the whole of Telangana. What purpose do they have here?" Rao told ANI.
Under the leadership of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, continuous action is going on against the illegally operated madrasas across the state. In this sequence, the administration sealed three illegal madrasas in the Bhagwanpur police station area of Roorkee.
Special survey teams were formed by the state government to investigate these madrasas, on the basis of whose report the district administration took this strict action, according to a release from Uttarakhand CMO.
All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board has expressed its support for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which has been passed by Parliament, and urged the government to bring transparency in the working of Waqf board and ensure rights to women.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday highlighted his government's achievements, including the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, effective January 27, 2025.

The district administration in Haridwar sealed five unregistered madrasas on Tuesday as part of an ongoing drive to enforce regulatory compliance. With this, the total number of madrasas shut down has risen to 12.
"Two madrasas have been sealed in Gandi Khata of Shyampur police station area...Uttarakhand CM has ordered us to take action against illegal madrasas and illegal constructions," the SDM said
