Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru have kept their doors open to play their home Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, according to ESPNcricinfo on Wednesday.
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Sunday ended months of uncertainty, giving the green light for international and Indian Premier League (IPL) matches to be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, subject to certain conditions.
The development comes after the cricket at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was suspended since June last year after 11 people died and several were injured in a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL title celebration.
In a formal communication to the KSCA, RCB has proposed the installation of 300 to 350 AI-enabled cameras at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, according to a release.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday stated that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) will only be granted permission to hold events at M Chinnaswamy Stadium if they act on the 17 recommendations made by the commission investigating the stampede.
