The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has banned the sale and purchase of substandard LPG cylinders throughout Pakistan, ARY News reported on Thursday.
Bringing a measure of respite to the people, especially the middle and lower-income sections, amid the polling for the 18th Lok Sabha, oil marketing companies have slashed the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders by Rs 19 per unit with immediate effect.
"In 2014, PM Modi had said that inflation was on the rise. It was true. In 2014, PM Modi promised to reduce petrol prices within 100 days but it's been more than 3000 days, and the prices have not reduced...It is the same with LPG cylinders. He makes fake promises but he never fulfils them,"
In a joint campaign by government oil companies and their distributors, basic safety checks are being done by visiting the homes of gas consumers within a time-bound period across the country.
"Every BPL family will get 10 gas cylinders free of cost every year. This will also ensure environmental friendly cooking. Every ration card holder will get 5 kg ration free of cost. It will be provided to every ration-holder's doorstep free of cost," Amit Mitra announced.
Minister Puri said, "On International Women's Day PM Narendra Modi conveyed this significant decision of reducing LPG cylinders price by Rs 100. The decision has been taken to extend the subsidy for one year."
Reacting to the Centre's decision to reduce the price of domestic LPG by Rs 100 on International Women's Day, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh on Friday called the decision a "political gimmick."
