Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday thanked the people after counting trends for the civic polls put the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a clear lead over rivals Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress in all 17 local bodies.

As the stage is set for the counting of votes for the urban local body polls and the by-election to two assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, security has been tightened on the counting centres across the state on Saturday.
Voting for the second and final phase of urban local body elections in 38 districts in Uttar Pradesh began at 7 am on Thursday amid tight security arrangements.
The polling for the second phase of the urban local body polls will take place on May 11 to elect representatives for the posts across 760 local bodies in the state. The counting of votes will take place on May 13.
