AIADMK legislators staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly in protest over the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. Ruckus erupted in the House after AIADMK leaders demanded discussion on the Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy, flagged black clothes and raised slogans in the Assembly.
Tamil actor Suriya Sivakumar expressed his condolences over the death of at least 47 people after consuming illicit liquor in the Kallakurichi district of the State.
AIADMK advocates have requested the Madras High Court to take up an urgent petition on the Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy issue for hearing. The Madras High Court division bench of Justices D Krishnakumar and K Kumaresh Babu have agreed to hear it on June 21.
"The toll in the twin hooch tragedies in Villupuram and Chengalpet districts rose to 21 on Wednesday. A total of 13 in Villupuram and 8 in Chengalpattu," Director-General of Police (DGP) C Sylendra Babu said.
The death toll in Villupuram Marakkanam spurious liquor consuming incident has increased to eight as two more people, who were undergoing treatment in Villupuram Hospital, died on Monday morning, said police.
Union Minister RK Singh on Monday accused the Bihar government of hiding the death toll in the Saran hooch tragedy and said that the locals have informed him that nearly 200 people died in the district.
