The restrictions have been imposed in Leh along with heavy deployment of security forces following a violent protest on September 24, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office was set on fire.

According to the official order, assembly of five or more persons is banned in the district. No procession, rally or march to be carried out without prior written approval.
The opposition launched attacks on the BJP-led Government following Wangchuk's arrest, with the Congress party accusing it of "mishandling" the situation in Ladakh. At the same time, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal termed his arrest as "dictatorship."
Amid the reports of the arrest of activist Sonam Wangchuk, the Indian National Congress on Friday launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, claiming that this has been done to "divert attention and responsibility" from the BJP's "abysmal failure" to maintain law and order in Ladakh.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday termed the reports of activist Sonam Wangchuk's arrest an "unfortunate" step; however, he also said that the move wasn't unexpected as the Central government was "after him since yesterday."

"My colleague Nawang Rigzin Jora has written to the Lt Governor of Ladakh UT demanding a judicial enquiry into the killings of four young men in the protests on September 24th," Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.
The Apex Body Leh, which led the protest for statehood for Ladakh, on Friday stated that their protest was peaceful, while a section of the youth got out of control on September 24.
"This can't be called a revolution. This could be called a conspiracy. Ladakh is still peaceful, but we won't let those who want to disrupt the atmosphere do so," Gupta told ANI.
