Following the massive fire at a hotel in Kolkata's Machhua area on Tuesday night that claimed 14 lives, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh has hit out at the West Bengal government, alleging rampant corruption and negligence in implementing fire safety norms.
Officials said that nine fire tenders are on the scene to douse the fire. The visuals of the incident showed a thick plume of smoke billowing from the houses engulfed by the fire.
On receiving word of the blaze, five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control after evacuating residents from the building.
A minor fire that broke out inside Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Wednesday was successfully extinguished, officials said.
