Rescue operations are underway in Kishtwar following a cloudburst on August 14 that triggered flash floods, leading to the loss of over 45 lives. The local community and J&K Police continue to provide urgent relief, shelter, and medical assistance to the injured.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the massive cloudburst that took place on Thursday in Kishtwar, triggering a flash flood in the area and leading to the loss of over 45 lives.
Kishtwar Additional Superintendent of Police Pradeep Singh told ANI that rescue operations are underway with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF, Fire Services, CISF, CRPF and the Army on the ground.
According to officials, relief operations are underway in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other civilian agencies.
The cloudburst struck Chishoti village in the Padder sub-division between 12 noon and 1 pm, triggering flash floods that damaged infrastructure, cut off road connectivity, and left several remote villages isolated.
Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and BJP MLA Sunil Sharma said that the rescuing agencies recovered 32 bodies after the incident of flash flood in Chisoti Village in the Kishtwar district of J-K.
Rescue operations are reportedly underway as authorities continue efforts to locate missing persons and provide relief to those affected. As per the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar, Pankaj Sharma, the rescue operations are underway.
