At least 76 people have been killed across seven provinces in Turkey and 42 have been found dead in Syria as a deadly earthquake struck 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi, Gaziantep province in Turkey on Monday.
The massive earthquake that shook Turkey and nearby regions in the early hours of Monday, killed at least 17 and injured many, turning buildings into rubble, CNN reported.
Aftershocks followed the quake. There were reports of destroyed buildings in Turkey and Syria, where tremors also were felt. Significant casualties are likely.
Five victims were taken to hospitals with varying levels of injuries. One of the victims succumbed to the injuries at the hospital and was pronounced dead.
According to locals, the incident happened at around 6.30 am on Sunday morning. The deceased was an examinee of the Matriculation and was to appear for the examination this year.
