Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters carried out heliborne operations with troops of the Indian and Kazakhstan Armies as part of 'Exercise KazInd' in the Eastern sector on Saturday.
In a vote of 29-8, some 16 countries, including India abstained from the vote. The eight nations who voted against were Bolivia, China, Kazakhstan, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Oman, Russia and Zimbabwe.
The position taken by Kazakh officials comes despite the presence of around 200,000 people from China's Xinjiang region in the post-Soviet state, many of whom have existing ethnic links to Kazakhstan.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the first India-Central Asia Summit in virtual format on January 27, which was attended by the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
On November 16, Moscow hosted the fourth meeting of the Moscow Format of Consultations on Afghanistan. It was attended by special representatives and senior officials from a number of countries including Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran and India.
After winning Kazakhstan's Sunday snap election, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is expected to strengthen its ties with China and Western powers as Russia's invasion of Ukraine erodes Moscow's clout over former Soviet states in Central Asia.
"My warm congratulations to President @TokayevKZ, for victory in the Presidential elections in Kazakhstan. I look forward to continuing working together, to further strengthen our bilateral partnership. @AkordaPress," he said in a tweet.
Tokayev will win the presidential election after receiving the support of 82.45 percent of the voters, Astana Times reported, citing the Open Society International Institute for Regional Studies.
The MEA in a statement said special envoys/senior officials from Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan also participated in the meeting.
The event was organized by East Turkistan National Movement (ETNM) and the East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE). The participants of the event called on the international community to intervene and stop "China's ongoing colonization, genocide and occupation campaigns."
