Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader BS Yediyurappa on Friday ruled out the possibility of his son, BS Vijayendra contesting from the Varuna constituency, and said that he will only contest from Shikaripura, which happens to be his own seat.
Karnataka High Court on Thursday disqualified Janata Dal (Secular) MLA Gowrishankar Swamy, however, put a stay on the order immediately for one month considering the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Addressing a press briefing, Yediyurappa said, "Under PM Modi's leadership, we'll come back to power. Congress is corrupted and that's why they're making false allegations of 40% commission and such others, these things will be kept away by voters."
"BJP has made the election system corrupt. They have started "Operation Lotus". They spend lots of money. The Election Commission should conduct the election in a free and fair manner. We hope they will do it," Siddaramaiah said.
Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday, said that in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, both the national parties (BJP and Congress) will be rejected and the people will elect a regional party.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Wednesday attacked the ruling BJP in poll-bound Karnataka, alleging that the party treated former chief minister BS Yediyurappa as "use and throw".
The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the Karnataka Assembly elections. The polling will take place in a single phase on May 10, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said on Wednesday.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday exuded confidence in winning the state Assembly polls slated to take place on May 10 and said that the BJP is an "ever-ready party" which is prepared for the elections.
