Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday condemned the Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy in Tamil Nadu which claimed 56 lives, and attacked the Congress party stating that the latter has not uttered a word against the incident.
As per the information shared by the District Collectorate, Kallakurichi, there were a total of 216 patients admitted to four hospitals in Tamil Nadu after consuming illicit liquor.
Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary SG Suryah on Saturday targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's DMK government over the Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy, stating that the state government should do more than just give Rs 10 lakh to the families of the victims.
Tamil Nadu minister S Regupathy on Saturday said that the Opposition headed by AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami, in the Assembly, wants to politicise the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy which has claimed 53 lives so far.
Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police, Rajat Chaturvedi, said that raids are going on in the state over the incident and the police will give a press note soon.
AIADMK legislators staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly in protest over the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. Ruckus erupted in the House after AIADMK leaders demanded discussion on the Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy, flagged black clothes and raised slogans in the Assembly.
