Vote counting started at 8 AM for assembly bye-elections in Nilambur (Kerala), Ludhiana West (Punjab), Kaliganj (West Bengal), Visavadar, and Kadi (Gujarat). Results will be declared today amid tight security arrangements at counting centres.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday accused the Trinamool Congress of displaying an "anti-Gujarati mindset" over its objection to the selection of an Ahmedabad-based firm for webcasting services in the Kaliganj Assembly by-election.
The polling began at 7 am on five seats across four states, including the Nilambur seat in Kerala, the Ludhiana West seat in Punjab, the Kaliganj seat in West Bengal, and the Visavadar and Kadi seats in Gujarat.
"It is an important day for me. Voting is the biggest right in the Constitution, and I feel proud to use that right. I request all the voters in the constituency to come out in large numbers to vote for the right party," Ahmed told ANI.
Voter turnout in the Assembly by-elections saw varied participation by 11 am, with Kaliganj leading at 30.34%, followed by Nilambur (30.15%), Visavadar (28.15%), Kadi ( 23.85%), and Ludhiana West at 21.51%, as per the Election Commission of India.

Mock polling was held at a polling booth in the Kaliganj assembly constituency ahead of voting for the Kaliganj by-elections, which are set to begin at 7 AM.
Bypolls in Kaliganj will be held on June 19 and counting will take place on June 23 to fill in the seat following the death of TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed.
The All India Trinamool Congress announced Alifa Ahmed as their candidate from the Kaliganj assembly constituency ahead of the bypoll, which is set to take place on June 19.
