India's national record holder in women's 100m hurdles Jyothi Yarraji added the 100m hurdles title to her kitty on the third day of the 62nd National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship here on Friday.
It was an eventful day here on Friday at Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Stadium, the venue of the 62nd National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship. More than a dozen athletes made the cut for the Hangzhou Asian Games scheduled to be held in September in China.
It is the 62nd edition of the event and will serve as the final selection trial for Asian Games to be held this year from September 23 to October 8 in China.
Jyothi marked a season-best time of 12.84s in Final A to win the event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger meet. The 23-year-old was just 2 seconds short of breaking her own national record of 12.82s.
Jyothi topped the podium with a meet-record time of 12.89 seconds. She also crossed the Asian Championships qualifying standard of 13.63 seconds set by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
Amlan Borgohain, in particular, will have happy memories of the tournament, having broken the men's 200m national record in the last edition. Jyothi Yarraji, the national record holder in the 100m hurdles event, will also compete in the 200m event.
Shaili also breached the qualifying standard for women's long jump for upcoming Asian Games 2022, set to be hosted in China later this year. The mark was set at 6.45 m by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI)
Jyothi Yarraji completed in 8.13 seconds, 0.03 seconds faster than her previous best. Yarraji, who also holds the national record in the outdoor women's 100m hurdles, topped qualifying on Saturday at 8.16 seconds.
Toor is an Asian Games gold medalist (2018), outdoor Asian champion (2019). He won a silver medal in the last edition of the championships in Tehran back in 2018 with a throw of 19.18 m.
