Opposition parties on Thursday pressed for a JPC probe into alleged bribery allegations pertaining to a Adani Group company in the United States and also attacked the Modi government over the issue.
After US prosecutors charged industrialist Gautam Adani and others in an alleged bribery scam, RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha on Thursday said that it is a "matter of concern" and demanded a Joint Parliament Committee (JPC) investigation into the matter.
Amid the demand of opposition members to extend the time of the Joint Parliament Committee on Waqf (Amendment) Bill, JPC chairman Jagdambika Pal on Thursday said that their report is ready and they'll hold clause-by-clause discussions on it.
The JPC committee is expected to present its report on the bill to the House by the end of the first week of the Winter Session of Parliament, which will run from November 25 to December 20.
The US Attorney's office says that the charges in the indictment are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Amendment Bill, Jagdambika Pal on Thursday said that the JPC on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 will meet in Delhi on November 21 and then the report will be presented in the winter session.
"Narendra Modi sarkar waqf kanoon danke ki chot par badal ne wali hai (come what may Narendra Modi government is going to amend the Waqf act) and then no one's land or house would be declared as Waqf property. This is a free India, and no one has the permission to do this," Shah added.
Speaking to ANI, Jagdambika Pal said that due to elections being held in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, as well as by-elections in several states, many MPs have requested me to pause the study tour.
Members of the JPC have requested the Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, Jagdambika Pal, to postpone the study tour due to the assembly elections.
