A large-scale joint combing operation was conducted by the Assam Rifles along with CRPF and Manipur Police in the Jiribam district of Manipur to reinforce security and stability in the district, Assam Rifles said in a press release on Wednesday.
The joint Columns of security forces comprising of Indian Army, Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force, and Border Security Force conducted three successful operations in parts of Manipur resulting in the recovery of weapons, an official statement issued by Defence PRO on Friday said.
Manipur has been in the throes of ethnic violence for a month, in the wake of a directive of the high court asking the state government to consider including the Meitei community in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).
"Operations, in the presence of magistrates where applicable, continue across the state with due diligence to avoid unnecessary hardships for locals. 22 weapons, mostly automatics, were recovered in the past 24 hours," Tweeted SpearCorps.IndianArmy.
Security Forces conducted Joint Combing Operations for the second consecutive day in the Hills and Valley Sector of Manipur on Thursday, an official statement said.
