In a further shot in the arm for the BJP going into the Lok Sabha elections, prominent leaders from several Opposition parties joined the ruling party at the Centre in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak.
The Congress leaders took the membership of the saffron party in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state convenor of New Joining Toli Narottam Mishra and others at state BJP office in Bhopal.
Several people belonging to minority and tribal communities left the Congress and joined the BJP at Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand on Thursday. They joined the BJP in the presence of the state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
After the joining ceremony, CM Yadav told reporters, "I am immensely happy about the fact that through the working style of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our family (BJP) is expanding every day. Today, Congress Rural District President of Ratlam, Kailash Patidar along with his workers joined
"The understanding between CPIM and Congress is 'unholy' in nature, as both parties have forgotten the past full of bloodshed and conflicts," Deb said.
In a setback to the Congress in Bihar ahead of Lok Sabha polls, former state president Anil Sharma on March 31 quit the party, claiming that it was stuck in a "disastrous" partnership with the RJD.
Actor and Member of Parliament, Sumalatha Ambareesh has announced that she will be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party and won't contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
While addressing a press conference here, the AAP leader said, "The BJP, through one of my close aides, approached me to join their party to save my political career, and if I do not join the BJP, then in the coming month, I will be arrested by the ED."
