Polling for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections began on Wednesday amid tight security arrangements. The voting process that began at 7 am will conclude at 6 pm, per the Election Commission of India.
Speaking to ANI, Ghulam Nabi Azad said "I strongly oppose the fact that elections were held after ten years. Till now there should have been two elections, one in 2019 and one now. Three elections were held for the Parliament and the no elections here left the state far behind."
The elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1. The counting will take place on October 8.
