Timor-Leste has announced its intention to open its embassy in New Delhi and the decision has been welcomed warmly, Ministry of External Affairs, Secretary (East), Jaideep Mazumdar said on Friday.
Highlighting the remarkable bilateral trade between India and Vietnam, Ministry of External Affairs, Secretary (East), Jaideep Mazumdar said that the bilateral trade is around USD 15 billion, adding that both nations' leaders feel that this could be "significantly increased".
Ministry of External Affairs, Secretary (East), Jaideep Mazumdar on Thursday emphasised that defence collaboration between India and Vietnam is a very important pillar, adding that both countries' leaders recognize that industry collaboration is a priority.
Counterparts from 18 EAS Participating Countries (10 ASEAN Member States and 8 Dialogue Partners of ASEAN namely, Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, RoK, Russia and the US) and Timor-Leste took part in the EAS SOM.
This meeting took place on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit (EAS) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum (ARF) Senior Officials' Meetings in Vientiane. Both leaders discuss matters of cooperation between the two nations.
Minister of State for External Affairs, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, on Tuesday, received SAARC Secretary-General Golam Sarwar on his inaugural visit to India.
Both diplomats bring extensive experience, with Kapoor serving in Kyiv, London, and Geneva, and Mazumdar being an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1989 batch.
