Coming out with a strong condemnation of the Iranian drone strikes on Israel in reprisal for the earlier attack on its embassy in Syria, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate cessation of hostilities on Sunday.
"In response to increased Iranian threats and the growing risk of escalation in the Middle East, the UK Government has been working with partners across the region to encourage de-escalation and prevent further attacks," the statement read.
Shortly before Iran launched drones towards Israel in response to its air strike on the latter's embassy in Syria, Jordan temporarily closed its airspace for all incoming, departing and transit aircraft, The Times of Israel reported, citing state-owned Al Mamlaka news on Saturday.
