Following a serious law and order situation that arose in Assam's Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts, the Assam government on Tuesday has ordered the suspension of internet and mobile data services in both districts with immediate effect.
The district administration requested an immediate communication shutdown to prevent further escalation, leading the state government to impose a complete suspension of mobile internet, broadband, and all social media services from 6:00 pm on December 8 until 6:00 pm on December 9.

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Saturday lashed out at the state government over the suspension of internet services in parts of Birbhum district, terming it as "evidence of deterioration" in the law and order situation.
The prohibitory order, issued by the Principal Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal on March 14, suspending internet and call services, cited concerns over the potential spreading of "rumours for unlawful activities."
Officials said that those responsible for the violence will be charged under the National Security Act (NSA). As a precaution, internet services across the district have been suspended for a day.
Amid the ongoing violence in Manipur, the Manipur police on Sunday imposed a curfew in both districts of Imphal until further notice.
This comes after six people were found dead. Following the incident, the Manipur government suspended internet in seven districts.
The higher and technical educational department of Manipur on Monday announced that all the government colleges, aided colleges, and private colleges will remain closed till September 12.
