Indian Navy ships INS Trishul and INS Sumedha conducted successful anti-piracy operations east of Somalia on 29 March, rescuing FV Al Kambar and its crew of 23 Pakistani nationals.
The dramatic rescue unfolded in the early hours of March 29, 2024, when the Indian Navy warship INS Sumedha intercepted the hijacked vessel, FV Al-Kambar, as it was being held captive by pirates.
Indian Naval Ship Sumedha arrived at Port Lamu in Kenya on Saturday as part of India's ongoing long-range deployment to Africa in resonance with the SAGAR vision, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release.
"INS Sumedha is on an Extended Range Operational Deployment and is currently operating in the Atlantic Ocean along the West Coast of Africa. During this period, INS Sumedha operated in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) undertaking a 31-day anti-piracy patrol," the Ministry of Defence stated.
