After finishing fourth in the previous two editions of the Junior Hockey World Cup, India finally returned to the podium in dramatic fashion, producing one of the most memorable comebacks of the tournament, as per a press release from Hockey India.
On Tuesday, the team convincingly beat Switzerland 5-0 at the Madurai International Hockey Stadium. The team led by Rohit and coached by PR Sreejesh will take on Belgium on December 5, as per Hockey India.
Germany started strongly, putting India under pressure early in the game. Nico Kistein (4') opened the scoring by converting a penalty corner, followed swiftly by a field goal from Alec Von Schwerin (5'), giving the hosts a 2-0 lead within the opening quarter
Entering the match fresh off a 6-2 victory over Spain, India jumped out to an early lead against the hosts Germany, but Germany ended the match on winning note.
The last time the India Colts won the tournament was in 2014 and earlier in 2013. In the previous two editions held in 2019 and 2018, India had lost the final to Great Britain and had finished third in 2017.
