Due to continuous heavy rainfall and inclement weather conditions in several districts of Himachal Pradesh, train services on the Shimla-Kalka route have been suspended, an official said on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner of Kullu Ashutosh Garg said that in view of the inclement weather conditions in the regions, a red alert has been issued and the Yatra has been suspended for Sunday and Monday.
According to the officials, inclement weather conditions in the union territory caused a delay to the annual Amarnath Yatra and suspended the yatra from both the Pahalgam and the Baltal routes.
Despite facing numerous obstacles like extreme weather conditions and landslides, a large number of devotees are reaching Uttarakhand's Kedarnath Dham.
"Troops of Trishakti Corps, Indian Army and personnel of Border Roads Organisation swung into action and worked overnight in heavy rains and inclement weather to create a temporary crossing over the flash flood area to facilitate the rescue of tourists," the release stated.
However, the Uttarakhand government has stopped accepting registration applications from pilgrims for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra in view of heavy snowfall on the pilgrimage route and a warning of inclement weather by the Met department.
Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army rescued more than 70 tourists stranded due to inclement weather at Kupup and Gnathang in Sikkim, informed Indian Army on Friday.
Around 20 flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed on Sunday till 1 pm due to inclement weather and other operational issues, said an official at the Delhi airport.
