Speaking to ANI, Tewari asserted that the Central government could have landed the plane anywhere in the country but chose Amritsar to humiliate Punjab.
In a post on X, Chidambaram said, "All eyes will be on the US aircraft which will land today in Amritsar bringing back illegal immigrants. Will the deportees be handcuffed and their legs tied with ropes? It is a test for Indian diplomacy."
Notably, on February 5, a US Air Force plane carrying Indian citizens who "illegally immigrated" to the US arrived in Amritsar, Punjab. A total of 104 Indian nationals were on board the plane that landed in Amritsar.
Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya, in a well-coordinated joint operation with sister agencies, successfully intercepted and apprehended multiple individuals attempting to cross the international boundary illegally.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has successfully deported 15 Bangladeshi immigrants and is in the process of deporting 35 more by the month of March, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bharat Patel said.
"Instead of sending them on a regular passenger flight, why were they sent on a goods flight. This means PM Modi's friend is treating our people like slaves. We could have sent our flight to bring them back," Kharge said.

Sandhu's comments came as the US deported several Indian nationals who allegedly illegally migrated to the United States on Thursday at Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat. A US military C-17 Globemaster military aircraft landed in Punjab's Amritsar on February 5 with 104 Indian nationals.
The Public Works Department (PWD) Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Vikramaditya Singh has strongly criticised the way the United States has been deporting alleged illegal immigrants back to India, calling it a violation of human rights.
