Speaking to ANI in Shimla on Friday, Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at IMD Himachal Pradesh, said overall weather conditions have remained dry over the past 24 hours.
The IMD has issued fresh warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, placing several districts under Orange and Yellow Alerts. Authorities advised residents to avoid rivers, landslide-prone areas, and low-lying zones as monsoon activity remains strong.
Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at the IMD Centre in Shimla, said that rainfall activity has been widespread across the state over the last 24 hours.
"So far, 109 people have lost their lives, out of which 64 deaths were caused directly due to rain-induced disasters like flash floods and landslides. The remaining fatalities occurred mainly due to road accidents during the same monsoon period," Negi told ANI.
Educational institutions in the Sub Divisions of Manali and Banjar, Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, will remain closed on Monday following a rain alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla.
Shobhit Katiyar, Senior Scientist, IMD Himachal Pradesh says, "In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain has been observed at many places in Himachal. In the last 24 hours, thundershowers have also been recorded at some places. No heat wave conditions have been recorded anywhere."
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heatwave conditions persist across the plains of Himachal, particularly in districts such as Una and the Bhuntar region of Kullu. In these areas, temperatures have been 5 degrees Celsius above normal for the past four days.
As per the predictions by IMD, Kangra, Hamirpur and Bilaspur are expected to receive up to 70 mm rainfall while the other parts and areas of the state would experience moderate to light rain for the next five days.
A deluge of rainfall has wreaked havoc in the northern and north-western parts of the country, causing widespread disruptions. The relentless downpour has brought daily life to a standstill, with flooded roads, suspended transportation, and power outages reported in several areas.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Karsog in Himachal Pradesh announced that due to ongoing and forecasted heavy rainfall on Wednesday, August 7, all schools, colleges, Anganwadi centers, and vocational institutes in the Karsog Sub-Division will be closed for the day.
Amid the orange alert in Himachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department on Wednesday predicted light to moderate rainfall likely to continue in the state.
