Himachal Pradesh: Schools, colleges shut in Karsog due to heavy rain

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Karsog in Himachal Pradesh announced that due to ongoing and forecasted heavy rainfall on Wednesday, August 7, all schools, colleges, Anganwadi centers, and vocational institutes in the Karsog Sub-Division will be closed for the day.

Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 7 (ANI): Due to ongoing and heavy rainfall, authorities in Himachal Pradesh's Karsog Sub-Division have declared that all schools, colleges, anganwadi centres and vocational institutes sub divison will be closed on Wednesday.
In an order, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Karsog stated, "Due to continuous rainfall since last night, which has caused blockage of roads and many incidents of frequent landslides have been reported. Also there is forecast of heavy rainfall for whole of the day on August 7, 2024. Under such circumstances the movement of Staff/School/College/Children/Trainee etc may be not safe and is required be restricted."
"Therefore, under Section 34 of Disaster Management Act, 2005 in order to ensure safety and security of student/Children's and staff, it is hereby order that all the Govt./ Private Schools/College/Anganwari/Vocational institute situated in respect of this Sub-Division Karsog shall remain closed on 07th August 2024. The head of the these institutions shall ensure strict compliance of the above said orders being the same a matter of public safety," Karsog Sub-Divisional Magistrate said.
This decision comes amid an orange alert in Himachal Pradesh, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting light to moderate rainfall to continue in the State.
According to the data from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 85 roads, including two National Highways (NH), have been closed in the state due to landslides and excessive rain.
A total of 116 electricity supply schemes and 65 water supply schemes have also been disrupted in the state.
An incident of catastrophic cloudburst occurred in the Lahaul and Spiti districts on August 1.
As the rain continues to lash Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh, the authorities have urged residents and tourists to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather advisories. (ANI)
