Light to moderate rainfall has occurred at a few places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the rest of the districts of Odisha, IMD Bhubaneswar, scientist Sanjeeb Dwivedi said on Sunday.
Severe cyclone 'Hamoon' has weakened and is now laid as a depression over the south of Mizoram, a senior scientist with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar informed on Wednesday.
Speaking to ANI, Senior Scientist of IMD Bhubaneswar Uma Shankar Das informed that the cyclonic circulation that was formed earlier is now over the northwest adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal.
Director IMD Bhubaneswar H R Biswas said, "A low-pressure area is likely to form over Odisha in the next 24 hrs. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning warnings have been issued for several districts."
"A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours. Under its influence, widespread rains and heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Odisha from 19 to 22 July," HR Biswas, Director of IMD, Bhubaneswar said.
In the last 24 hours Odisha has experienced widespread rainfall. Binika in Sonepur district recorded highest rainfall of 165.2 mm and Dhankauda in Sambalpur 155.5 mm. Sambalpur has received 127.8 mm of rainfall.
"A cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts and extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height," IMD Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said.
Odisha has been witnessing heavy showers for the past 24 hours and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued an Orange warning to 13 districts in Odisha for another next 24 hours.
All schools up to class 12 both Government Aided and Private along with all the Anganwadi Centre will remain closed in Odisha on April 19-20 in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions in the state.
