An inspector of the mines department and five home guard jawans were seriously injured allegedly after being attacked by a gang of sand mafias during a joint raid in Bihar's Kishanganj district on Wednesday.
A Patwari (revenue official), who had gone to stop illegal sand mining in the Son River of Shahdol district, was crushed to death by a truck allegedly at the behest of the sand mafia late on Saturday night, the police said.

Reacting to the incident of a police sub-inspector being mowed down by a tractor carrying illegally mined sand in Jamui, Bihar Minister Chandra Shekhar said that the incident is nothing new and asked whether such incidents did not happen in other states.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted extensive searches at 34 locations, which included eight sand mining yards, across six districts of Tamil Nadu on September 12 in illegal sand mining case.
