After the Indian Air Force successfully test-fired BrahMos extended-range missile from a Sukhoi-30 fighter, (Retd) Lt. Gen VK Chaturvedi heaped praise on the Indian forces calling it an extremely positive step towards the modernisation of the armed forces.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully conducted a trial run of the 4.1 km long and 33-metre-wide emergency landing facility (ELF) constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on a national highway in Andhra Pradesh, the officials said on Thursday.
"After being launched from a Su-30 fighter aircraft, the missile hit the target ship in the centre. It was a test of the anti-ship version of the air-launched version of the missile," said defence officials.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on Thursday called on India to stitch a partnership with nations, sharing common beliefs, to counter the 'volatile and uncertain' neighbourhood countries.
Using their Special Forces in these operations, the Indian Air Force has also equipped them with the latest weapons like the American Sig Sauer assault rifles along with the latest AK-103 whose latest version AK-203 would be produced in the country under the Make in India scheme.
The exercise is taking place at a time when a face-off between Indian and Chinese troops at the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh took place on December 9 along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) preceded by attempts to violate air space on many occasions.
"In the last few weeks, there have been two to three occasions where our fighter jets had to be scrambled to tackle the Chinese drones moving towards our positions on the LAC. The Su-30MKI jets had to be scrambled to tackle the air violation threat," defence sources told ANI.
The new missile has been acquired by the Indian Air Force under emergency provisions and will further enhance the capabilities of the Su-30 fighter jets which are now the mainstay of the force for at least the next 20 years.
The Indian Air Force is keeping a close watch on Chinese drone activities along the Line of Actual Control in the North-East as on many occasions they have tried to fly towards the Indian territory along the Line of Actual Control.
