The BJP on Friday continued its protest outside the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation commissioner's office for the second day, demanding permission to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, from September 19, at the Idgah Maidan.
Hubli-Dharwad West MLA Aravind Bellad, Mayor Veena Bhardwaj and other BJP members held the 'Dharna' (protest) at the commissioner's office and demanded approval for the installation of a Ganesh idol at the Idgah Maidan.
With reference to Gandhi's address at a campaign rally in Hubballi on May 6, the Congress on the same day, attributing to Sonia Gandhi tweeted that the Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson "sends a strong message to 6.5 crore Kannadigas".
"I'm happy that people are celebrating this festival of democracy in a big way. People are interested to bring BJP's double-engine government. BJP will form a government on its own," Joshi said.
Not many would know that the Tricolour at the Red Fort, which makes every Indian heart swell with pride, comes from Karnataka Khadi Gramodyog Samyukta Sangha, India's sole Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-recognised national flag manufacturing unit at Hubballi's Bengeri.

The Chief Minister said that the Congress party wants to ban an outfit which is dedicated to nationalism and by talking about banning Bajrang Dal the Congress is playing games with the Hindu faith.
Speaking to ANI, Union Minister Joshi said, "Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also came to Karnataka. No matter who comes to the state for the election campaign, BJP will return to power in the state with a full majority."
Speaking to reporters in Hubballi, Kateel said, "BJP is making efforts to win more seats in Old Mysore, a JDS stronghold. A lot of publicity work is being done and BJP is also calling star campaigners."
"I take criticism from BS Yediyurappa as his blessing in this election...His wish for me (to lose) will convert into success for me," said Jagadish Shettar.
