The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai for July 9, Tuesday. The city is expected to receive very heavy rain in the next 24 hours.
The civic body said that Colaba recorded 83. 8 mm of rainfall and Santacruz recorded 267.9 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Mumbai city received a total of 2547 mm of rainfall, which is 27. percent of average annulal rain.
Mumbai city recorded over 300 mm of rainfall at various places in six hours from 1 am to 7 am today, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The situation in Assam worsened after 8 people including three children died after drowning in flood waters in the state in the last 24 hours and the death toll in this year's flood mounted to 66.

The IMD issued an orange alert for 8 districts and a flash flood warning for four districts in Himachal Pradesh on Friday due to continuous rainfall in the last 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued in most parts of the state on Saturday.
"In the next 48 hours, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at most places in the state and heavy to very heavy rain is likely at one or two places," said IMD Shimla.
