New Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday presided over the Congress Legislative Party meeting, shortly after taking charge.
Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Pratibha Virbhadra Singh met Congress leader Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu as he took charge as the Chief Minister of the state on Monday.
"Today I am taking charge as the CM of the state. All MLAs, Deputy CM and senior members of the party will work for the welfare of the state," he said.
He is a loyalist of the Gandhi family, Sukhu belongs to a middle-class family. He was active in politics from his student days and fought elections as an NSUI candidate. He was president of NSUI and the Indian Youth Congress in the state.
On her arrival in Himachal Pradesh for Chief Minister designate Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu's oath-taking ceremony, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that the party is very happy.
Himachal Pradesh Congress Chief Pratibha Virbhadra Singh, who was seen as a strong contender for the post of Chief Minister following the party's victory in the state, on Sunday confirmed that she would attend the oath-taking ceremony of Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
