Traffic has been suspended and the Yamunotri pilgrimage halted as boulders continue to fall at many places on the Yamunotri Highway for the last three days as persistent rains continue to wreak havoc in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, officials said.
As the monsoon fury continued over the northwestern Himalayan region, several roads were blocked, and scores of people were stuck and stranded due to landslides.
Following incessant rainfall in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, the Badrinath National Highway (NH-7) got blocked after boulders and debris has come on highway near Pipalkotim, said officials.
The families of missing people continued to block the N-25 highway after which the traffic between Quetta and Karachi remained suspended for several hours on Monday.
According to the officials, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is working to open the highway. They said that due to the blockage of the highway, many passengers are stranded.
The Jammu-Srinagar national highway was blocked for vehicular traffic following landslides due to heavy rainfall in Mehad and Cafeteria Morh of Ramban district on Sunday.
The Mandi-Kullu National highway has been blocked after incessant rain in Himachal Pradesh, the Mandi district police said in a public notice on Sunday.
According to State Emergency Operation Centre officials, the incident took place at Loona area of Bharmour village in the outskirts of Chamba district.
