Three people were killed and eight others were injured in a collission on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Borghat around 4 am on Friday morning, officials said.
In a recent incident near Venkatachalam on the Chennai-Calcutta National Highway, Naidupet DSP Rajagopal Reddy demonstrated exemplary valour by promptly rescuing and transporting the injured to a nearby hospital.
He announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those killed in this accident and directed the administration to provide proper treatment to the injured at government expense.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each for the next of kin of the 12 people, who died in a horrific highway accident at Bharatpur in neighbouring Rajasthan on Wednesday morning.
"The incident is very unfortunate. After coming here, the police informed me that the incident took place due to brake failure. We will wait for the investigation," NCP MP Sule said.
Passengers had a narrow escape after a double-decker-Shatabdi bus overturned on the Kanpur-Agra National Highway of Thana Sikandra area, said the police.
The accident took place when the SBSTC (South Bengal State Transport Corporation) bus which was on its way from Digha to Kolkata had stopped at a crossing near Ramtarak on the highway.
