Following incessant rainfall in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, the Badrinath National Highway (NH-7) got blocked after boulders and debris has come on highway near Pipalkotim, said officials.
Earlier in the day, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai forecasted about moderate thunderstorms over Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram and Thiruvannamalai districts in Tamil Nadu.
A video of the incident also went viral on social media. In the purported video, the woman and other locals could be heard saying, "Why have you come now?"
"The Sonali river flowing through dozens of villages of Laksar swelled. As a result the Sonali River dam broke down near Kuan Kheda village. As soon as the dam broke, the water of the river started flowing on the other side," officials said.
Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Wednesday said that the situation in the state has improved significantly and the government is working round the clock to evacuate the stranded people from flood-hit areas.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday requested the people of the state and the pilgrims to avoid unnecessary journeys in view of continuous rainfall in the state.
