The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for several parts of south India, including North interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, for Tuesday (December 3) as the remnant low-pressure area of Cyclone Fengal persisted over North Interior Tamil Nadu.
As per the weather department, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Villuppuram districts, Puducherry and Karaikal area today.
CM Dhami instructed all the district magistrates to keep all the officers in alert mode at all times and enquired about the condition of water logging while issuing directions for better drainage arrangements.
The regional meteorologist has predicted that rainfall can be recorded over 204 mm in those eight districts in the state including Guna, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Sehore and Harda.
The alert predicts medium-intensity rainfall over the next 12 hours, primarily affecting the districts of Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi.
Mumbai University has postponed all the exams in the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts due to heavy rain alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department on Friday.
The IMD has issued an orange alert today for Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Malappuram and a yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
As heavy rain lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu and the India Meteorological Department issued a heavy rain alert for the next seven days, the district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Kanyakumari on December 18.
All educational institutions and Anganwadis in Shimla and Mandi have been declared holiday on August 23 and 24 owing to a 'Red' alert issued for heavy rain.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert and predicted heavy rainfall in eight districts of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, said an official.
"Apart from this, one day holiday has been declared in all other schools/colleges, Anganwadi centres from class 01 to class 12 of the district," an officials statement said.
